From hill walks to high altitude
I grew up in Bedfordshire, but a lot of my family are Welsh — so from a young age our holidays were spent in the valleys. That's where my love for the mountains began: long damp walks, soggy sandwiches, and the quiet satisfaction of a summit cairn.
I never went to university. Instead, in my early twenties I reignited that childhood love for the hills — recruiting a handful of mates and dragging them up the main Welsh ranges, again and again, in every kind of weather.
Five years on, I've chased bigger goals in the mountains — taking those skills to the Alps with my uncle for my first true alpine experience. Crampons, ropes, glacier travel: a whole new language to learn.
I'm 28 now, and the Seven Summits is the long arc of where this is heading. Below is the short version of how I got here.
- Aug 2015 · Eryri, WalesFirst scramble — Crib Goch
Up Crib Goch with my uncle on a bluebird August day. The exposure didn't scare me — it hooked me.

- Sep 2024 · Saas-Fee, SwitzerlandAlpine apprenticeship — Mittaghorn via ferrata
First time on alpine ropes and crampons, with my uncle on the Mittaghorn via ferrata on 14 September 2024. A whole new language to learn.

- Sep 2024 · Saas-Fee & Zermatt, SwitzerlandAlalinhorn & Breithorn — first 4,000ers
Straight from the Mittaghorn we pushed on, summiting the Alalinhorn (4,027 m) and the Breithorn (4,164 m) over the following days, with a night at the Almageller Hut for acclimatisation.

- Feb 2025 · TanzaniaKilimanjaro (5,895 m) — Summit #1
Uhuru Peak via the Machame route, summit night out of Barafu Camp. My first of the Seven Summits and my first time at proper altitude.

- 2026 · Alps, FranceMont Blanc (4,808 m) — next up
Standing in for Elbrus on my Seven Summits list. Five weeks out as I write this.
